Business operations and care for the environment at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen are in tip-top shape. This was demonstrated after two interim inspections by auditors from Lloyd’s Register certification society. Due to coronavirus restrictions, the audits took place largely online.

The audit place on 20 October, checking whether DSV still complied with ISO 9001 and 14001 standards, concerning the quality of the operational management and the environmental standards within the company respectively. The corresponding ISO certificates are valid for three years.

The inspections showed that DSV still meets the requirements perfectly, says HSEQ Coordinator Henk Jan Nieboer. “This outcome is important to us, but also to the outside world. For our current customers, it is important for them to know the high value we give to good quality business operations and environmental care. ” The audit was performed by independent auditors from Lloyd’s Register.

Henk Jan goes on to say that it was notable that, due to the coronavirus crisis, the audit was largely conducted online; for the first time via video link. “Only the outdoor part of the environmental certification could be carried out in person at our location, because the risk of contamination is smaller outside.”

Henk Jan is pleased that the audit did not reveal any shortcomings. “The online part took some getting used to – without the direct interaction between Lloyd’s auditors and the people on the work floor. The unique aspects of the atmosphere, culture and ins and outs of the work floor cannot be assessed.”
