It is an edition with, literally, a golden edge. The traditional Sulzer calendar that Damen Schelde Marine Services publishes every year reflects that, in 2021, it has been exactly one hundred years since De Schelde started building Sulzer engines under licence.

Rémy Quist, who has been coordinating the publication of the calendar for six years already, is very happy with the result. “The anniversary calendar has been given some gold accents. It looks beautiful this year.” Five hundred large and as many ‘desk-top’ copies of the Sulzer calendar have been printed, ready to be sent all over the world to customers in China, India and the US. The calendar contains beautiful black and white vintage photos of the old Machinefabriek. The photos were once again selected out of the 60,000 negatives of the Scheldt photo collection, which has been on loan from the Zeeland Archives in Middelburg since last year.

The 2021 edition only contains ‘new’ photos. “We thought about making a ‘Best of’ edition, using photos from previous years,” says DSMS Managing Director Arnold Suykerbuyk. “But, in the end, we decided once again to select photos that have not been used before.”

The calendar is always much appreciated; this can be seen by the thanks that DSMS receives directly or through its sales people and agents. Rémy: “Of course old Scheldt employees are always interested. Some people drop by our office to pick one up.”
