Damen Naval personnel were recently able to participate in a short workshop on Thales’ TACTICOS Combat Management System. Over a period of two days, 29 sessions were held in which anyone who was interested was given a short introduction and demonstration.

“By no means everyone who works at Damen Naval has the opportunity to look around a naval ship; and even fewer have seen a Combat Management System before,” explains Ronald Lukasse, Proposal Manager Combat Systems at Damen Naval. “With these workshops, we wanted to show as many people as possible what such a system looks like and what actions you can perform with it. The aim was to give as wide an audience as possible an impression of what we are all working towards and building together.”

The 28 workshop sessions proved so popular that a 29th session was added to the schedule. The 28 workshop sessions proved so popular that a 29th session was added to the schedule.

TACTICOS is a modular Combat Management System, which can be tailored to various mission profiles and to various ship types. The system is already in use onboard more than 200 naval vessels from 25 navies, ranging from small patrol ships to large frigates and destroyers. TACTICOS enables the user to operate at every stage of naval operations. This includes assessing, monitoring the tactical situation, planning, and coordinating actions as well as using integrated weapons and sensors.

The 28 scheduled workshop sessions proved very popular and filled up in no time. A special 29th workshop was even organised to give all interested parties a chance to attend a session. “We have held workshops and presentations at Damen Naval before which were always very well received,” says Thales Key Account Manager Stephan de Bruijn. “TACTICOS is a beautiful and effective system, and during the workshops we were able to show how intuitively TACTICOS works, and that this CMS covers the whole spectrum of naval operations. It was an intensive two days, but it was really nice to see the participants’ reactions, especially since they also got a chance to use the system themselves for a while.”
