In less than three weeks, Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSV) has given the LNG tanker and bunker ship New Frontier1 its first five-yearly maintenance. The 119.94-metre long and 19.4-metre wide vessel was built in 2017 and sails under the Panamanian flag. A team of thirty people worked in two shifts to make the ship ready for service as soon as possible.

The ship was completely checked and repainted, says DSV’s Project Manager Wim van de Velde. “She had some superficial damage which we repaired, we overhauled the electric motors and assisted in replacing the propeller shaft seals. We also fully inspected the life-saving appliances, such as the free-fall lifeboat, and carried out load tests for the lifeboats and ship cranes.”

Because the ship was already scheduled for bunkering jobs in Europe, a lot of work had to be done in a short time. Wim: “The owner wanted to get the ship back to work as soon as possible, so we made sure it was ready to go in less than three weeks.” The ship spent about two weeks in dry dock and one week at the quayside. “This was a case of ‘roll up your sleeves and get on with the job’. A job that DSV is well acquainted with.”
