On 14 February 2025, Damen Schelde Marine Services (DSMS) signed a contract with French electricity company EDF to provide engine parts to a power station on the island of Saint Martin. As an integral part of EDF’s maintenance programme, DSMS will be supplying parts essential for the operation and maintenance of three 4-stroke Hyundai generators. The contract duration is two years plus an option for three additional one-year extensions.

The new contract follows a similar land-based power station contract that DSMS secured with EDF in September 2023 to supply parts to a power station on Corsica. “EDF called us in December 2023 with a parts request for their power plant on Saint Martin,” says DSMS Sales and Marketing Manager Remy Quist (pictured right). “This developed into a conversation about a contract for the engine parts EDF requires for their scheduled maintenance plans on Saint Martin – with the purpose of giving them greater certainty about parts supply and delivery. However, because this particular type of generator has quite a limited supply chain, we could only offer a two-year contract with three one-year options.”

“EDF is a key account for us and this new contract underlines the mutual trust between DSMS and EDF and marks the next step in our growing relationship with them.” Richard Nieuwenhuize

Remy worked closely with DSMS Account Manager Richard Nieuwenhuize (pictured left) during the contract negotiations. Richard describes their roles: “Remy focused on the contract conditions, price, and the legal aspects. And I handled the communication with the client and maintaining the account, visiting the Corsica plant, for example.”

By the end of 2024, DSMS and EDF had reached a point where the contract could be finalised and the contract was ultimately signed on 14 February. Richard concludes: “EDF is a key account for us and this new contract underlines the mutual trust between DSMS and EDF and marks the next step in our growing relationship with them.”
